Etsy Browsing: Dreamy Sideboard

Wow! It has been a big while! So much has happened since the last time I posted here... The family has grown... and we now have two gorgeous little boys! And couldn't be happier. That's a big plus, on the very small downside the time for anything Mirtilo related (the blog and the shop) has been put to the side. Hopefully I'll be able to get back on track. At least I have tons of great ideas. Only time will tell. Keep around to see.

In the meantime take a look at these amazing sideboards I found on Etsy! How I would love to have one of these! And you can even change the colour of the panels. There is only one problem... they don't ship outside Australia.

Yellow Branch & in love Birds Pillow Cover now on the shop

The second pillow for the shop is finally ready. It actually took a little longer than anticipated due to the lack of proper sunshine for the photos. But it looks like the sun is finally here!

I'm so tempted to make another one for myself! It would look great on my bedroom :) you can find it for sale on my etsy shop.

And the photos of the fun bit of making this pillow cover:

White hearted tree pillow cover - new product now available

After a while, I finally finished this pillow cover I have now for sale on my etsy shop. There is another one to come in the next few days and I'll let you know all about it when the time comes.
I have been working with this design for a while now. First I used it for a paper cut picture and then decided to adapt it as a stencil for printing. I must admit I really like the result... I'll have to make one for myself. :)

Check out the pictures of the making of:

I had a lot of fun making this project. I'm looking forward to make some more. The fabric is a breeze to work with. Both painting and sewing!

Don't forget to visit my shop and to share it to everyone you know ;)

Happy New Year and a Freebie

The new year is finally here! And after all the Christmas preparations and celebrations I'll have time for new projects and ideas I have been maturing. Some more news in a few days... or weeks.

In the meantime, I wish you a great 2013!

Spice Labels Freebie

I have tons of spices on a drawer and whenever I open it I can only see the top of the flasks. I already know by heart their positions... except when I don't! So, to solve this (and stop using Cumin when I'm looking for Nutmeg), I did some spice labels in lots of colours that you can download and use it freely.

It is there any missing, let me know. Every page has every spice in all the colours, but you can easily edit the pdf if you wish. There is also a pdf available with each spice in one of the colours (so you can use it directly). Just print in an A4 sticker paper, cut it and stick it. I'll post some photos once I finally do it.

More labels

I'm running out of labels and had to print some more. Some time ago I did the stamp and bought the fabric ink. It's easier this way (and cheaper). And I like the homemade feel in it!

DIY: Polka Dot Printed skirt

Polka dots are quite whimsical but at the same time very romantic. And colourful polka dots are specially eye catchy.
I printed a white skirt I bought a big while ago. It has been lying around waiting for the right printing inspiration.

How to make your one polka dot skirt

Making your own is very easy and quite a fun project. Just buy (or make) a white skirt that you really like. This one I bought before we left London at a Gap store. I really liked the way it moved and how light it was.
Of course you can use this technique for whatever other fabrics, clothes or materials you like.
As a disclaimer, forgive me for the quality of some of the photos. That's the result of working late at night.

Grab some pencils with a rubber on top. Just grab as many as the colours you want for your skirt.

And now just stamp way. I started with purple. Put a bit of fabric paint on a paper plate and dip the rubber in it.

Take the excess paint off on a sponge or a paper towel.

And print it on the fabric.

If you apply different pressures you'll get different looking dots.

Just repeat till you think you have enough polka dots.

Move on to the next colour.

Distribute the dots and you can even overlap some.

Don't forget to set the colours after you finish printing your skirt otherwise the colours will fade away when you wash it. Just follow the instructions on the paint's label.

Now just wear your skirt proudly!

Have fun.

New line on the shop - Sweet Pouches

Finally I have some news: the first sweet pouch is now available on the shop.
These pouches feature a white canvas and include a set of fabric pastels. With these pastels your kids can easily make the pouch their own to offer to mommy, grandma, aunt, favourite teacher...

This is how they look! The pouch measures 27 cm (w) x 19 cm (h) and it is wide on the bottom and zipper opens wide. The model on the photo also includes an inside pocket. You can visit the shop to take a look at the pouch.

The included pastels are special for fabrics, very soft and easy to draw with. To set the colours on the fabric just follow the instructions on the package.

Some time ago, my son did one of these to give to daddy (which he proudly uses to German lessons). And the final look was very nice. The colours are really bright.
